I never planned to become a leave of absence expert. I fell into it — first as a claims adjudicator at The Hartford, working through medical certifications and FMLA eligibility one case at a time.
What I learned was that every leave is a person. A pregnant employee terrified of losing her job. A new dad trying to take time without going broke. A daughter caring for a parent with cancer while everything else fell apart.
